The “Garbage” Championship

The PGA Championship starts today, and the story lines continue to develop ahead of the second major of the year. Apparently, Rory is done talking LIV Golf in the media. PGA Championship 2023: One-word answers show Rory McIlroy is changing his approach in battle against LIV Golf | Golf News and Tour Information | GolfDigest.com And in case you’ve been asleep at the wheel, former PGA Championship winner and world number one, Jason Day, is officially back. The Aussie took down his first victory in five years last week at the AT&T Byron Nelson. Day is feeling so good he decided to pass on a practice round at Oak Hill before his morning tee time on Thursday. Tiger

We all know the Big Cat will not be teeing it up this week. Following a recent surgery and the departure of his longtime caddie, Joe LaCava, it’s unclear if and when we will see El Tigre in action again. The Field

Now let's take a look at the field. Rahm and Scottie Scheffler are the clear 1A and 1B. Scottie has finished in the top 20 in 9 of his last 11 Majors. And current world number one, Jon Rahm, is the only player to make the cut in all 12 events he has played this year. Chances are good that one of those two will hoist the Wanamaker, but where is the fun in betting chalk? Rory McIlroy, (still chalky) whose wife is from the area, is 11-1 with Patrick Cantlay at 16-1. But it’s not a major championship without Brooks Koepka in the mix. Brooks, at 18-1, is a damn good price for someone who is an absolute dog in majors.  This story by Kyle Porter gives you every reason to throw down on Brooksy. Boots on the ground

The tournament will kick off on Thursday, with the first groups teeing off at 7:00 am where we have our own resident TRBL MKR, Kaylin Kline in attendance. From the Cleveland State University women’s golf team, Kaylin describes the course at Oak Hill Country Club as feeling a little “U.S. Openy.”  “This won’t be a putting contest,” Kline has assured us.  Driving and approach are going to be king this week.”  Follow Kaylin @kaylin.kline23 on IG for updates throughout the weekend.

The Garbage

If the golf isn’t enough, another interesting piece of Rochester culture is the garbage plate. The Rochester Garbage Plate (visitrochester.com) Whether you call it the garbage plate, trash plate, compost plate, or junkyard plate, the concept is still the same. Be hungry! This plate is full of your choice of hamburger, Italian sausage, steak, chicken, cheeseburger, and red hots. Then topped with baked beans, mac salad, fries, and the special “hot sauce” which is a Rochester special hot meaty sauce. Tums not included…but they should be.

Cheers TRBL MKRS.  Here is the “garbage” and a great weekend of championship golf.
